Principal's Message

August 2023

Dear West Hollywood Community,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2023-2024 school year at West Hollywood Elementary School where we Discover the Magic of Learning each day!

Our teachers and staff have been busy preparing learning environments to be safe and responsive to the needs of our students. I believe this year is going to be spectacular as we continue the rich tradition of providing academic experiences for our students that are rigorous, relevant, and help them build relationships while making real-world connections.

We will be continuing our great adventure with S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) as a STEAM-certified school. Our school will continue its partnership with the LAUSD Instructional Technology Division. Our participation in their school models of support has broadened the scope of student experiences with digital citizenship, coding, robotics, engineering and computer science. We are proud to continue being a part of such an impactful and relevant program! 

We will continue to engage in “Growth Mindset” as a form of support while students encounter new problems to solve and challenges to overcome. We will continue to focus on our theme of kindness, encouraging our students to be positive and supportive as a school community learning together. We will utilize the 6 pillars of character from the Character Counts! program, focusing on a different pillar each month. We will include a focus on equity, empathy, and caring for one another as a reflection of current events and global citizenry. Coach Felt will continue providing "Mindfulness Mondays" as part of our repertoire of Social Emotional learning this year. Coach Felt and our school Psychologist, Ms. Bennett will be leading the students, staff, and families on a journey of mindfulness each Monday in their classrooms. 

We will focus on the core academic areas, and intervention to close gaps in learning, and we will continue to explore the arts and enrichments that our school community values.

As your principal, it is important to me that everyone who steps through our classroom doors – teachers, students, and parents – feel welcome, excited, and inspired to be here! This attitude enables us to meet the challenges of academic excellence in a positive, fun, and nurturing environment. Together we will continue to move West Hollywood Elementary School and its students through a positive present and toward a strong future.
