Principal's Message

August 2020

Dear West Hollywood Community,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year at West Hollywood Elementary School where we Discover the Magic of Learning each day! We are embarking on a new journey together this school year, even though we won’t be able to meet physically in person to start the year, I believe this year is going to be amazing as we continue the rich tradition of providing academic experiences for our students that are rigorous, relevant, and help them build relationships while making real-world connections.

We will be continuing our great adventure with Instructional Technology this school year as we have been awarded the opportunity to be a Practitioner 5.0 school with the LAUSD Instructional Technology Division. Our participation in this project greatly influenced our instructional approach to distance learning in March and we are proud to continue being a part of such an impactful and relevant program! We have learned a great deal since March and look forward to deepening our approach to online instruction, differentiation, and supporting student’s social-emotional needs. Our teachers and students will continue to work collaboratively with a full-time Instructional Technology Coach again this year to lead us in achieving digital citizenship, access to computer science, global collaborations, and so much more.

We will continue to engage in “Growth Mindset” as a form of support while students encounter new problems to solve and challenges to overcome. We will continue to focus on our theme of kindness, encouraging our students to be positive and supportive as a school community learning together. We will include a focus on equity, empathy, and caring for one another as a reflection of current events and global citizenry.

We will focus on the core academic areas, intervention to close gaps in learning as a result of school closures, and we will continue to explore the arts and enrichments that our school community values.

As your principal, it is important to me that everyone who steps through our virtual classroom doors – teachers, students, and parents – feel welcome, excited, and inspired to be here! This attitude enables us to meet the challenges of academic excellence in a positive, fun, and nurturing environment. Together we will continue to move West Hollywood Elementary School and its students through a positive present and toward a strong future.

Warmest Regards,

Elizabeth Lehmann, Ph.D.
